Max’s Pirate Romantic Comedy With Rhys Darby & Taika Waititi Returns On October 5
Sep 14, 2023
“Our Flag Means Death” was a sleeper hit for Max on its series premiere last year. That makes Season 2 of the pirate comedy one of the most anticipated releases on TV this Fall. Based on the (kind of) true story of Rhys Darbie‘s Stede Bonnet, the series follows the wannabe pirate as he sets to become a legendary buccaneer himself. But after he crosses rapiers with Taika Waititi‘s Captain Blackbeard, he discovers more than just the romance of the high seas.

Season 2 of “Our Flag Means Death” picks up where Season 1 left off, with Stede and Blackbeard still separated. But their love story is far from over.
Here’s an official synopsis of “Our Flag Means Death,” courtesy of Max:
OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH is based (very) loosely on the true adventures of 18th-century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet. After trading the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard. To their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas…they found love. Now, they have to survive it.
Season 2 sees Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Mahe, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, and Leslie Jones all return to reprise their roles. Newcomers to this “Our Flag Means Death” season include Ruibo Qian, Madeleine Sami, Anapela Polataivao, and Erroll Shand. Minnie Driver and Bronson Pinchot are board the frigate as guest stars.
David Jenkins serves as creator and showrunner on “Our Flag Means Death.” Jenkins also directs the first two episodes of the new season. Waititi leads executive producers with Garrett Basch, Dan Halsted, Adam Stein, and Antoine Douaihy.
“Our Flag Means Death” premieres on Max on October 5, with three episodes. The eight-episode season continues with two new episodes every week until the season finale on October 26. Watch a trailer for Season 2 of the show below.
