Adult Swim’s Hit Series Returns Without Justin Roiland But The New Voice Actors Remain A Mystery
Sep 25, 2023
When the domestic violence allegations against Justin Roiland were made public earlier this year, Adult Swim was quick to announce that he would no longer be involved with the series he co-created, “Rick and Morty.” This was a huge announcement, as Roiland was the man behind the iconic voices of the title characters. What would the series do without Roiland? Well, the quick answer was that “Rick and Morty” was going to move on without Roiland and under the sole guidance of co-creator Dan Harmon. But who would replace Roiland in the voice roles? Well, we are less than a month away from the premiere of Season 7 and we still don’t know.

That said, as seen in the trailer for Season 7 of “Rick and Morty,” new voice actors (yes, there are two of them—one person as Rick and the other as Morty) have been brought in and… well, they sound like Rick and Morty. There’s no major change in the voices, but I’m sure there will be some fans who swear they can tell a difference. Regardless, the interesting aspect of this is Adult Swim has yet to unveil the identity of the actors. Nowhere in the trailer is it mentioned. Nowhere in the press notes. Not a single word is mentioned about the new actors.
But does it matter? Sure, it makes for an interesting answer, as people will no doubt obsess over who the new actors are. Ultimately, however, Harmon is still in control, and if you follow the reports that came out after Roiland was fired, it’s clear the “Community” creator was already the main creative driving force of “Rick and Morty” and had been for years. So, in terms of content, fans can rest assured “Rick and Morty” is just as absurd and creative as before—just with very slightly different voices leading the way.
“Rick and Morty” Season 7 is set to debut on Adult Swim on October 15. You can watch the trailer below:
