Three Friends Try To Break Into The Music Business In Netflix’s New Comedy Series

Oct 3, 2023

A film or TV series about the rise of an unlikely music star is nothing new. We’ve seen this done a million times. However, Netflix is hoping that fans will have interest in at least one more of these stories with “Neon.”

As seen in the trailer for “Neon,” the series follows a group of three friends who are trying to make it in the music business. One of the friends is an up-and-coming reggaeton artist and the other two serve as his managers. The series focuses on the ridiculousness of the music industry, and unlike other similar stories, “Neon” never forgets its a comedy and almost reminds a bit of FX’s hit series, “Dave.”
The new series stars Tyler Dean Flores, Emma Ferreira, Jordan Mendoza, and Courtney Taylor. “Neon” is co-created by Shea Serrano and Max Searle, who also serves as showrunner. And as is very evident from the trailer, Daddy Yankee is onboard as an executive producer, lending a bit of musical star power.
“Neon” debuts on Netflix on October 19. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
From small-town Florida to the bustling beaches and bright lights of Miami, Neon follows three friends as they hustle their way to making it big in the world of reggaeton. The eight-episode comedy captures not only the three besties’ larger-than-life dreams, but also the harsh realities and funny mishaps of surviving the music industry. Tyler Dean Flores plays Santi, a rising reggaeton artist who, with the help of his friends Ness (Emma Ferreira), Felix (Jordan Mendoza), and A&R rep Mia (Courtney Taylor), hopes to become the biggest star in reggaeton. Or at least pay his rent.
