‘Loki, ‘Our Flag Means Death,’ ‘House Of Usher’ & More
Oct 3, 2023
With the WGA-Strike officially over, there seems to be the first real lull due to the impact of it. October still has plenty of series worth exploring, especially notable titles such as the latest from Mike Flannigan and the second season of the popular “Our Flag Means Death,” but the lineup isn’t quite as bulked up as some of the more recent months. That said, at the very least, it offers up time to explore older series we might not have gotten around to yet, dig deep into the ones being released, and compare to others of its ilk — how does “Loki” stand up to the most recent MCU offerings — and, in the spirit of the month, dabble in some of the best horror / Halloween related episodes of TV history.

“Loki” (Season Two)
What do you really need to know other than Tom Hiddleston is back as the God of Mischief in season two of “Loki.” And Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, and Owen Wilson (Mobius) also return. What’s different? The notion of “time slipping,” an affliction ailing Loki, plus the introduction of new characters played by Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, and Ke Huy Quan, plus Jonathan Majors as Kang The Conquerer, the MCU’s new big bad (read our review).
Premiere Date: October 5 on Disney+.
“Our Flag Means Death” (Season 2)
In season one of David Jenkins’ pirate comedy, much to their surprise, the wildly different pirates Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taiki Waititi) found more than friendship on the high seas…they found love. The complicated trick is that now they have to survive it. Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Samson Kayo, Con O’Neill, Nathan Foad, Vico Ortiz, and most of the principal cast of season one return.
Premiere Date: October 5 on MAX.
“Lupin Part 3”
Omar Sy returns as France’s most wanted thief in “Lupin Part 3.” The heist series follows Sy’s Arsène Lupin, the world-famous gentleman thief and master of disguise, in a retelling of the classic story, with Part 3 following the events of Part Two, where the thief cleared his name for murder. Ludivine Sagnier, Etan Simon, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, and more also return.
Premiere Date: October 5 on Netflix.
