Smallville Star Continues His Campaign to Play Green Arrow in James Gunn’s DCU
Oct 16, 2023
Kyle Gallner may have excelled as a speedster in Smallville, but the actor is very clear that if he returned to the DCU, Green Arrow would be the character he would choose to play.
Gallner was one of the members of the beta version of the Justice League featured in the hit WB television series that centered on a young Clark Kent before donning the Superman suit and becoming the hero of Metropolis.
The show also presented its own version of Oliver Queen, with This Is Us star Justin Hartley playing the character. For a moment, the network considered giving Hartley his own spinoff as the famous archer, something that didn’t happen but kickstarted the development of Arrow and, eventually, the birth of the Arrowverse.
Since James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as the co-CEOs of DC Studios, who will develop a new extended universe that integrates series, movies, animated productions and video games, Gallner has been postulating himself as the candidate to play the new Green Arrow.
Earlier this year, the actor published a video showing his bow and arrow skills on his social media, and now he used his Twitter account again to upload an image that shows him as a very good option for the role, not only for his skills, also for his look:
Gallner isn’t the only one who has been linked to the character, DC fans have come up with their own candidates, with Austin Butler and Charlie Hunnam topping the list. Another one who has been mentioned many times is Alexander Ludwig. So the competition is fierce.

Who’s Green Arrow?
DC Comics
Despite the fact that the character did not appear in the list of heroes that will be part of the first projects of the first phase of the new DCU, titled Gods & Monsters, Oliver Queen is one of the most popular DC heroes and will surely have his moment to shine in the future of the franchise like he did on TV for years with Arrow thanks to Stephen Amell.
Created by writer Mort Weisinger and artist George Papp, Green Arrow made his first appearance in 1941 in Fun Comics #73. With a story similar to Batman’s in many ways, Oliver was a successful businessman and celebrity in Star City until he was shipwrecked after an accident on his ship.
While the rest of the world thought he was dead, Oliver had to revive his bow and arrow skills, something he had learned as a child thanks to his love for Robin Hood, another character with whom the hero has much in common. After going through all kinds of adventures on an island, he finally returned to Star City and opted for a hidden identity, becoming a vigilante in search of criminals.
Green Arrow has been a member of the Justice League for many years, working alongside Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and many other heroes.
