Onyx The Fortuitous And The Talisman Of Souls Featured, Reviews Film Threat
Oct 20, 2023
Andrew Bowser has been making comedy shorts and features since 2005. He fully inhabits his characters in a pseudo-Sacha Baron Cohen way. One such fictional persona is Onyx the Fortuitous, who became a viral sensation a few years back. Now Boswer brings Onyx, real name Marcus Trillbury, to the big screen in Onyx The Fortuitous And The Talisman Of Souls. Should the silly content have been left on YouTube, or is there enough here to justify the 110-minute runtime?
“…Onyx meets the other lucky Satanists here to facilitate gaining immortality.”
Onyx (Bowser) is a nerdy little man sporting a full beard. When he’s not verbally sparing with his stepdad or working at Marty’s Meat Hut, he is studying the books and spells of Bartok (Jeffrey Combs) and hopes to one day become a powerful Satanist like his idol. Well, Onyx is in luck as he has won the chance of a lifetime: he will stay at Bartok’s mansion to help him in a magick ritual.
Upon arriving, Onyx meets the other lucky Satanists here to facilitate gaining immortality. There’s Mack (Rivkah Reyes), a non-binary person with whom the lead has an instant bond. Duke (Terrence Carson) is a scholar specializing in the occult. Jesminder (Melanie Chandra) believes she is the incarnation of Bartok’s wife from a past life. Shelly (Arden Myrin) was a Christian until a tragic fate befell her. To prepare and guide the group through each ritual is Bartok’s demonic assistant, Farrah (Olivia Taylor Dudley). However, an accidentally discovered piece of parchment hints that Bartok and Farrah are up to more than they are letting on. After all, what could go wrong with summoning the leader of Hell?
