The Marvels Runtime Reportedly Revealed, and Would Break a 10 Year Record for the MCU
Oct 30, 2023
Summary
The Marvels is rumored to be one of the shortest MCU movies ever. The movie brings together Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani in a cosmic adventure featuring Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan. While some may be surprised by the shorter runtime, it could be a positive thing, indicating that the story doesn’t need unnecessary padding and will be a thrilling rollercoaster ride.
Everyone has come to expect the Marvel Cinematic Universe to deliver movies that test the bladder, but it seems that this will not be the case for November’s release of The Marvels. According to a number of internet “scoopers,” the rumored runtime of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel return will not only be the shortest MCU movies ever, but one of the shortest movies of the year.
The Marvels will bring together Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani as Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, in a cosmic adventure that will also see the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Acting as a sequel to Captain Marvel, Secret Invasion, Ms. Marvel, WandaVision and more MCU projects, there is a lot of expectation on the movie to see out Marvel Studios’ year in style and not add another disappointing bookend to match Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania.
The latest rumor to hit the internet courtesy of Cryptic HD Quality – the same supplier of early information on the runtimes of a number of Disney+ shows including Ahsoka – is that The Marvels will deliver an “all killer, no filler” story in a paltry 93 minutes. To put this in context, the shortest MCU movie is currently a tie between The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World, which both came in at 112 minutes. While The Marvel’s official time is yet to be released, and there could be some tweaks to be made to the final length, it does look like the movie is going to be the shortest of the franchise by some way.

Does a Marvel Movie Need to be Long?
The MCU set itself up as the bringing of huge scale epic movies, with runtimes to match. While most Marvel movies have run for over two hours, there have been several that have runtimes just shorter than this, including Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp and, most recently, Thor: Love and Thunder.
While every Marvel offering does not need to be well over two hours long to be impressive, The Marvels reported length of just over an hour and a half – a length that was much more frequent for movies two decades ago – could come as a huge surprise to many. In many ways though, it is perhaps not a bad thing for a couple of reasons.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been known to push boundaries when it comes to the length of some of its movies, and there are usually at least 20 minutes that could be shaved off any MCU release. The succinct runtime, if true, could simply mean that the story does not need two hours plus to tell and therefore has simply chosen to not to include any unnecessary padding. This would be a breath of fresh air, and would not do any harm to the movie if it means that audiences come out of the cinema feeling like they have been on a tight, thrilling rollercoaster ride by the end of it.
The Marvels is expected to hold its scheduled release date of November 10, despite the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
