Beloved ‘Stranger Things’ Duo Officially Reuniting for New Netflix Spy Thriller Series

Over the course of five seasons and ten years, Stranger Things delivered audiences a lot to love. Whether you connected with the nostalgia of the ’80s, the complex sci-fi, or the thrilling horror, the show had something for everyone, making it one of the most popular series of the last decade. Another compelling component was the chemistry among the cast, an achievement made all the more impressive given that the show was one of the first credits for many of the younger cast members. If there was only going to be one breakout star from the show, it was Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven. With her shaved head, telekinetic abilities, and mysterious backstory, she immediately won over audiences, driving us to follow her journey in subsequent seasons. If there were two breakout stars of the show, though, then the other would arguably be David Harbour as Chief Hopper, despite the fact that he already had a number of credits to his name. Delivering the perfect blend of gruffness and warmth, his frustration with the kids in Hawkins, Indiana combined with his desire to protect them, made Hopper a great surrogate father for most of our protagonists. While it’s only been six months since Stranger Things ended, Deadline confirmed that Brown and Harbour are reuniting for an all-new spy series on Netflix. The series is being developed by Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne and is based on the book A Spy In the Blood by Paul Warner.
The series currently feels like a collection of Netflix all-stars, as the aforementioned trio not only have Stranger Things and Adolescence to their names, but Thorne has written Netflix’s Enola Holmes movies, which stars Brown as the titular character. “We are delighted to bring this spy drama to life with an extraordinary group of talent we’ve been fortunate to collaborate with before,” Jinny Howe, Netflix Head of Scripted Series, US and Canada, shared in a statement. “Jack Thorne’s ability to find the deeply human story inside a thriller is unmatched, and watching Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour reunite — this time as estranged father and daughter on opposite sides of a crisis — is something audiences are going to love. A24 is the perfect partner to bring this story to our members around the world.” Deadline describes the new series as following a “disgraced FBI agent turned security expert Matt Wolfe (Harbour) is drawn back into the world he left behind when his estranged daughter, Rebecca (Brown) — now an FBI agent determined to follow in his footsteps — vanishes on a mission, forcing him back into a field that has evolved beyond him.”
News of this reunion will also hopefully settle all the rumors about the friction between the actors. Surrounding the release of the final season, various reports emerged that there was toxic behavior between the two of them – specifically that Brown filed reports of bullying and harassment against Harbour. While specific details of the behavior and the timeline of events haven’t been officially detailed, the pair has addressed the former strife and seemingly has put all of that behind them for the new project.
