Zack Snyder Is Expanding His REBEL MOON Franchise with an Animated Series, Podcast, Comic Book and an 800-Year Timeline — GeekTyrant

Nov 12, 2023

Zack Snyder is taking his world-building talents to an epic level with his Rebel Moon franchise. He is going all in on this thing and the two movies coming to Netflix, Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver, are just the beginning of what the filmmaker has got planned.Snyder has revealed to GameRadar that he is also developing a Rebel Moon animated series, an animated comic book, and a narrative podcast, which is all set before the events of the first film.”I’m the gatekeeper for what’s possible. I’m the only one who knows where the whole story is going, and I do have it mapped all the way. We’re doing a narrative podcast, and an animated comic book, and an animated series. They all take place before the events of the movie. So you can start to understand the vastness of the mythology that we’ve been working on.”That’s just the beginning, though! Co-writer Kurt Johnstad explains that there is an 800-year timeline to work with as they play in this universe. Johnstad explained:”The world is very, very detailed and fleshed out. There’s hundreds and hundreds of pages of documents of methodology and mythology and lore. The timeline goes back 800 years, from our movies.”This timeline even extends to a 12ft whiteboard in the writers’ room, which features the full Rebel Moon timeline. Johnstad continued: “There’s a ruler with inches underneath that whiteboard, and the two movies are literally two or three inches of that entire 12-foot span.”That’s pretty awesome! It was previously revealed that Snyder wrote a 450-page bible for Rebel Moon, which details “all kinds of lore and backstories pertaining to the evil Imperium.” He also working on a TV series that would explore the history of the saga’s villain, Fra Fee’s Balisarius, and there’s also a third film. The story for the film follows a group of ragtag rebels who rise up to fight against a giant, evil Empire. It’s set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.” This is a two-part film and each part will come with an R-rated edition that fans can watch as well. The movie stars Charlie Hunnam, Ed Skrein, Bae Doona, Djimon Hounsou. Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Anthony Hopkins, and Alfonso Herrera. The two Rebel Moon films are titled A Child of Fire and the second titled The Scargiver, which will be released next spring. A Child of Fire is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on December 22nd.
