Summary
The second season of Loki on Disney+ has broken viewing records on Disney+. Loki’s journey in season one forced him to confront his own mortality and question his identity, leading to a transformation. Season two aims to bring back the mischievous Loki while retaining his newfound heroism, striking a balance between his old and new nature.
The second season of Loki has made a triumphant return to Disney+, breaking previous viewing records for the streaming platform. The storyline picks up after a shocking season finale, where Loki finds himself engaged in a battle for control over the Time Variance Authority and the fate of the multiverse. Alongside Mobius, Hunter B-15, and an ensemble of both new and familiar characters, Loki embarks on a journey across an ever-expanding multiverse, driven by his quest to find Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and uncover the meaning of free will and glorious purpose.
A recent report from Deadline reveals that Loki season two’s debut garnered 10.9 million views within the first three days of release. Only The Mandalorian season three premiere has outperformed Loki in terms of viewership on Disney+ in 2023. This impressive start comes as no surprise, given that Nielsen data from season one’s six-week run indicates that it consistently averaged around 872 million minutes of viewing per week.
Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of Loki has been a remarkable journey, taking the character from his initial appearance in Thor to becoming one of the most enduring and intriguing figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Season one of Loki played a pivotal role in this transformation, pushing the character to confront his own mortality and question his identity. By witnessing his own death and realizing the futility of the infinity stones, Loki was forced to hit the reset button.

Loki Season 2 Promises a Mischievous Hero
Marvel Studios
As Loki head writer Eric Martin recently shared, season one was a brain-scrambling experience for the god of mischief, leading him on a path towards righteousness and heroism. However, this transformation had the unintended consequence of making Loki forget who he truly was. In season two, the goal is to bring back the God of Mischief while retaining his newfound heroic nature. It’s about striking a balance between the mischievous Loki of old and the hero he has become, allowing him to utilize his cunning and talents for mischief while still standing on the side of the heroes.
“Season 1, and like Episode 1 especially, scrambled his brains. He sees his own death by the end of that. He realizes that even the infinity stones are pointless at this new level of things. And so he had to completely reset and figure out who he was.
Loki had kind of forgotten who he was, and Season 2 is like rebalancing that. So we still have this hero Loki, but we’re getting back to the meat and potatoes of who this guy is. We’re getting back to the God of Mischief. So we see him using all those talents of the God of Mischief but as a hero now.”
In the series, Jonathan Majors takes on the role of Victor Timely, a variant of Kang the Conqueror from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Alongside him, Owen Wilson reprises his role as Mobius M. Mobius. The cast further includes Sophia Di Martino, who portrays Sylvie, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as the authoritative Time Variance Authority judge Ravonna Renslayer. Tara Strong lends her voice to the quirky character Miss Minutes and Ke Huy Quan portrays the character OB.
Loki is set to release new episodes every Thursday at 9 pm EST on Disney+.
