Nicole Kidman Confirms Season 3 Of HBO’s Hit Series Is Happening
Nov 20, 2023
There’s no denying “Big Little Lies” was a huge hit for HBO. Originally pitched as a limited series, the show with an all-star cast (including Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and more) was such a hit, HBO decided to pay a huge sum for a second season. That batch of episodes was, once again, massively popular with both critics and viewers, leading to all sorts of discussion about a possible Season 3. Over that time, there have been rumblings, but nothing formally confirmed about more “Big Little Lies.” But if anyone is going to know the truth, it’s Nicole Kidman.

Speaking at a recent event (via E! Online), Nicole Kidman talked about her love of “Big Little Lies” and why it’s special for her. Not only that, she decided to drop a bit of a bombshell, confirming that work is being done on a Season 3 of the series.
“I loved ‘Big Little Lies’ because it sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire,” explained Kidman. “And then this situation came along, where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show and create that show. And then all of you watched it and made it a massive success.”

She added, “And we will be bringing you a third one, just FYI.”
Of course, there aren’t any real plot details or anything shared by Kidman about what Season 3 might look like. Over the past several years, HBO has been very vocal about the logistical difficulties of “Big Little Lies,” primarily with the cost of each season. (Surprise, surprise, A-list talent is really expensive.) So, just the news of Season 3 being a real thing is exciting enough for fans of the show. It almost doesn’t matter what the plot is, given the acclaim the first two seasons have received.
Now that we know Season 3 of “Big Little Lies” is on the way, we just have a couple more questions. First, who is going to direct the thing? The series’ first director, Jean-Marc Vallée, has sadly passed away. Season 2 filmmaker, Andrea Arnold, was at the center of some supposed behind-the-scenes drama. So, it’s unclear who might take the reins there. And secondly, when are we actually going to see it? That’s a whole different can of worms, as the scheduling for the series has to be a bit of a nightmare.
Questions aside, at least we know it’s actively being developed. So, let’s just see what happens.
