Summary
Chris Evans addresses rumors of original Avengers returning to the MCU, but hasn’t heard anything to validate them. Evans doesn’t completely deny the possibility of returning, but emphasizes the need for a perfect project. He values the Captain America role and would only consider a return if the opportunity is just right.
Chris Evans has addressed the rumors that Marvel plans to bring back all the original Avengers to the MCU. Recent rumors have developed that Marvel Studios, in the midst of a few disappointing box office performances, is planning to bring back the original six Avengers, meaning Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Thor would all return for some new project. No further details, including how or when this reunion could potentially happen, were revealed.
In a recent appearance on The View, Evans responded to these rumors. The star, who played Captain America in the MCU from 2011 to 2019, said he knows the rumors but hasn’t heard anything to validate them. While he didn’t completely deny the possibility that he could return, he said he would only do it if the project were perfect. Check out his full quote below:
“You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me. I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting Downey, and Hemsworth, and Scarlet, and everyone’s coming back! No one’s spoken to me about it. And look, I would never say never, but I really — I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right.”
Is An Original 6 Avengers Return Really On The Table?
Rumors about the Avengers return started with a report from Variety, which contained other Marvel bombshells. The outlet claimed the studio was considering bringing back the original six Avengers for a film but had not yet committed to the idea. During the premiere of The Marvels, Kevin Feige responded to the rumors, claiming that he’s not aware of any such plans in the works but doesn’t outright shut them down.
We’ll have to see. Is that the answer? Fallen Avengers that are returning…is that [the new rumor,]? I have literally not seen that. We did not discuss that [after having the rumor explained to him] at the retreat is the truth. We are doing a project with Scarlet. I love Robert, he is a part of the family but in terms of returning, we’ll have to see.
Other cast members, including Scarlett Johansson, also addressed their possible return. The Marriage Story actor told Today it would have to be “a real Marvel miracle” for Black Widow to return from the dead. These rumors appear to be just speculation at the moment, and Evans’ response correlates with others, suggesting an MCU Avengers reunion won’t be happening anytime soon.
