Prime Video’s “The Boys” franchise, a satirical and deconstructivist look at superheroes, just keeps going and going. There’s the spinoff series, “Gen V,” which season four of “The Boys” picks up from, and there’s also a new Mexico-set version of the series coming from Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal, both of whom will guest star on that spinoff. But the main flagship brand is back with season four.

Posters and recent images that teased the season spoke about the in-universe election happening within the series. The photos were clear; things were looking up for the Vought heroes led by Homelander (Antony Starr) on Election Day, and Billy Bucher (Karl Urban) and The Boys will likely face a crushing defeat. In the series, Homeland backs Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) and her running-mate presidential candidate Robert Singer (Jim Beaver).
A recent social post revealed more. Season four takes place one month after the events of “Gen V,” Butcher knows about the virus that plagued heroes last season, Homelander will stand trial for killing a Starlighter, and the events of this season will lead straight into “Gen V” season two so they are looking to align the franchises more and more.
According to a recent interview with “The Boys” showrunner Eric Kripke, the superhero-targeted virus introduced on the aforementioned spinoff show “Gen V” will play a vital plot role in “The Boys” Season 4. Kripke also noted that most of the new season was completed before the strikes, which is why we now have a new release date, TK, 2024, and a new teaser trailer, which debuted at CCXP in Brazil this week.
Here’s the season four synopsis:
The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is joining the cast in a new mystery role, and it’s unclear if Jensen Ackles will be back as Soldier Boy. Two new heroes join the fray in season four: Firecracker, portrayed by Valorie Curry (“Veronica Mars”), and Sister Sage, played by Susan Heyward (“Orange Is The New Black”).
Returning cast members include Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, Colby Minifie as Ashley, and the aforementioned Claudia Doumit.
