Marvel Phase 5 Disney+ Shows Reportedly Get New 2024 & 2025 Release Dates

Dec 8, 2023

Summary

The Hollywood crisis has affected Marvel Studios’ projects, leading to delays in film releases like Fantastic Four and Blade, as well as changes in the release dates of original series on Disney+. The ongoing negotiations between AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA for better contracts have caused the delay of many movies and TV shows in the industry, including those in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some upcoming Marvel series like Agatha: Darkhold Diaries and Spider-Man: Freshman Year have been given new release windows, but others like Iron Heart and Daredevil: Born Again have seen significant delays.

The crisis in Hollywood is affecting a long list of projects, including some of the most anticipated in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With several films already delayed, a new report indicates that several original series have also had to change their release dates since they will not be ready on time. While the writers have already obtained their new agreement with AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA continues to negotiate for a better contract for the actors in the industry, which has led to the delay of many movies and TV shows.

Marvel Studios has already made several calendar modifications, including delaying films like Fantastic Four and Blade, which has been a hard blow for the fans. Deadpool 3 has not yet modified its release, but it seems that its date of May 3, 2024, is at high risk if the strike does not end in the coming weeks.

For Marvel Studios shows, the situation is not much different. This year, the MCU only released two original shows on Disney+, Secret Invasion and Loki. Other TV projects like Echo, which were initially going to premiere this year, have now been removed from the schedule. However, thanks to a recent copyright filling by Marvel Studios (via The Direct), some of the franchise’s upcoming series have already been given a new release window.

According to the report, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries would arrive on Disney+ in September 2024, far from its initial date of winter of 2023. Spider-Man: Freshman Year is also being delayed, and fans won’t be able to enjoy the new animated adventure until November 2024. Iron Heart is one of the most affected, as it will now reportedly premiere in September 2025, almost three years after Riri Williams’ introduction to the MCU in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The report also includes information about what is, perhaps, the most anticipated series for MCU fans. Daredevil: Born Again, which was going to be released in Spring 2024, but will now see the light of day in 2025. This is not a surprise, considering that it was recently confirmed that Kevin Feige requested an important list of changes for the show, changing the entire team of screenwriters, among other things.

With so much uncertainty about the long-term future of the franchise, there are still some projects that, for now, have been able to maintain their release dates so that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have something to enjoy amid the long waits ahead.

On the one hand, in cinema, fans will be able to experience the latest adventure of Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers in The Marvels, where she will join Iman Vellani’s Kamala Kahn and Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau. In December, if all goes well, the second season of What If…? will premiere on Disney+. The new episodes will once again explore alternate realities to the main MCU canon, featuring different versions of the franchise’s most popular characters and plots.
