Chad Stahelski Thinks of Kevin Feige as a Mentor, John Wick Director Teases Blade
Jan 12, 2024
Summary
John Wick director Chad Stahelski considers Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios a mentor. Stahelski has engaged in talks to potentially direct the upcoming Blade remake for the MCU, but it remains uncertain if he will be involved. Blade is scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025, and is touted as the darkest entry in the MCU thus far.
The director of the John Wick films is no stranger to Marvel Studios. Sure, most fans probably think of Chad Stahelski as the one tugging on the cinematic strings of the Baba Yaga (Keanu Reeves). But Stahelski’s stunt work experience led to his participation in a number of Marvel projects. And Stahelski actually considers the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, “a bit of a mentor.” Stahelski recently spoke with host Josh Horowitz during a watchalong for John Wick: Chapter 4 on Happy Sad Confused. And Stahelski said:
“Look, I’ve worked for Marvel a bunch, and they’ve been very, very good to me. And like Kevin Feige, he’s been very… he’s almost been a bit of a mentor in a capacity of advice that he was very happy to give me about how to open up a franchise with John Wick.”
Stahelski participated in several Marvel movies over the years as a stuntman/coordinator, including Spider-Man 2, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Iron Man 2, The Wolverine and Deadpool 2. And while Stahelski has a number of directorial projects in the works, and the most notable is arguably the long-awaited Highlander remake, there have been talks of the creative taking the helm of the new Blade film for the MCU.

During his sit-down on the Happy Sad Confused watchalong, John Wick director Chad Stahelski confirmed that he has engaged in talks to direct the upcoming Blade remake for the MCU. Like so many other projects that suffered from delays because of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes, Blade was also shut down. But Stahelski would love a chance to take the reins of the new Blade movie. Stahelski said during the same watchalong:
“Of all the things out there, I would take a swing at Blade in a second. Like that’s one that gets under my skin. Like ‘Ah! I’d take a swing at that one […]’ We’ve talked about it, but like look, they’ve got a very… I think they’ve got a good formula. They have their thing going, and I think they’ve got the right people involved in Blade now.”
Back in November of 2022, it was reported that Blade would be the darkest MCU entry. And as much as Stahelski would like to be the one to reimagine the character for the big screen, it seems like the discussions about him joining Blade are just that. Stahelski also told Josh Horowitz during the John Wick: Chapter 4 watchalong:
“I’m not in the inner circle, but we’ve had talks. Just for whatever reason, things come together, and there’s a good fit for everything else. But I think they, for what they’re doing, they’ve got a great, a great thing going. But if that thing doesn’t work out, in five years from now I’d still be like, ‘Yeah.’ Maybe on the fourth reboot of Blade or the fifth reboot of Blade…”
At the time of this writing, Blade is scheduled to hit theaters on November 7, 2025. And fans can watch Stahelski’s appearance during the Happy Sad Confused watchalong for John Wick: Chapter 4 in its entirety below:
