After a minor dry spell of new releases, February is gearing up for a stacked slate. This includes major, highly buzzed-about series such as the remake of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and the long-awaited adaptation of “Avatar the Last Airbender.” There’s also the triumphant return of the Emmy-nominated “Abbott Elementary,” the latest Star Wars adventure, and exciting new original series.

From romances to help sink into the Valentine’s Day mood to epic historical dramas and a hilarious-looking new comedy animated series, here’s what’s worth checking out this month.
“Genius MLK/X” (Season 4)
In the latest installment of National Geographic’s “Genius” series, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X get the spotlight. Past seasons have covered the lives of Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso, and Aretha Franklin. Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“Chevalier,” “Elvis”) stars as Martin Luther King Jr., and Aaron Pierre (“Foe”) stars as Malcolm X.
Premiere Date: February 1 on National Geographic and Disney+.
“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” (Season 1)
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s chemistry was electric in the original 2005 film, and now Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are taking the plunge in “Mr & Mrs Smith.” Created by Francesca Sloan and Glover, the series follows a pair of spies who must impersonate a married couple for a mission. Parker Posey, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Sharon Horgan, Ron Perlman, and more star.
Premiere Date: February 2 on Prime Video.
“Abbott Elementary” (Season 3)
The Emmy award-winning comedy “Abbott Elementary” returns for its third season. Recent Emmy winner Quinta Brunson stars as Janine, an enthusiastic second-grade teacher who is constantly trying to better the lives of her students while dealing with her own awkward interactions. The ensemble cast is rounded out by Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, William Stanford Davis, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
Premiere Date: February 7 on ABC.
“One Day”
Based on the 2009 novel of the same name by David Nicholls, “One Day” is the latest limited series from Netflix. The narrative follows the decades-spanning love story between Dex and ‘Em as they reunite on the same day every year. Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall star as the two protagonists, with Essie Davis, Tim McInnerny, Amber Grappy, Jonny Weldon, Eleanor Tomlinson, Joely Richardson, and Toby Stephens rounding out the cast.
Premiere Date: February 8 on Netflix.
