David Tennant Would Love To Bring Jessica Jones Villain to the MCU

Feb 22, 2024

Summary

David Tennant hints at a Kilgrave comeback in the MCU, despite character’s death in
Jessica Jones.

Fans want Jessica Jones in the MCU, with Kevin Feige reportedly considering Netflix canon.
Ritter teases a possible return as Jessica Jones, sparking speculation about her role in future MCU projects.

David Tennant is open to reprising his role as one of the greatest villains of Netflix’s run of Marvel Television shows in the new playground of the MCU. Tennant appeared as the formidable Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, one of the most ruthless bad guys to grace any Marvel project, with a powerful mind-control ability that could get him pretty much anything he wanted. During his hosting appearance at this year’s BAFTA Awards, Tennant, who recently returned to another of his old roles as The Doctor in Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary celebration, hinted that he would certainly consider dropping in on the Marvel world again.

Jessica Jones Release Date November 20, 2015 Seasons 3 Studio Netflix Franchise Marvel

As per Covered Geekly, Tennant was more than happy to address the possibility of slipping back into Kilgraves shoes again…even if the character has been dead since the first season of Netflix’s Jessica Jones series. He said:

I’d love to do Kilgrave again, yeah Kilgrave would be great. Yeah, that would be good wouldn’t it? I mean…he did very much get his neck broken, he was very dead…but never say never in the Marvel Universe.

Kilgrave’s character, despite, as Tennant noted, being killed off in the inaugural season of Jessica Jones, left a mark on the series, and continued to appear in disturbing hallucination sequences throughout the second and third seasons. Although it could always be possible for the MCU to simply ignore the events of Jessica Jones and bring Kilgrave into the story as his living, breathing self, if/when Krysten Ritter’s superhuman private investigator arrives in the MCU, she could always bring her hallucinations of him with her.

Jessica Jones is the One Netflix Character Fans Want in the MCU
Netflix

After many denials and pivots, it seems that Kevin Feige has made the decision to accept the Netflix Marvel shows as some sort of canon events. Although this may not be exactly the case, it is clear from the reported changes made to the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again that something has finally clicked at Marvel Studios, imploring them to embrace the thing that fans have been asking for since the plug was pulled on Netflix’s Defenders Saga.

With Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio having been reinstated as Daredevil and Kingpin respectively, and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle aka The Punisher set to make his debut in Daredevil: Born Again, the only thing that fans now want to know is when Ritter’s Jessica Jones will join them.

So far, there has been no official word on whether any of the other Defenders characters will be reprising their roles at some point in the future. Ritter has been playing fans perfectly via her social media accounts over the last few months, teasing many Jessica related hairstyles and clothing choices that have cause speculation of her possible arrival in Daredevil: Born Again to come back time and time again.

With Tennant clearly up for returning to his villainous ways as Kilgrave, and Ritter more than ready to return as Jessica Jones, isn’t it time someone at Marvel Studios finally put everyone out of their misery and just gave her a place in the MCU’s timeline? There is something that suggests we haven’t seen the last of Ms Jones just yet.

Jessica Jones
, and the rest of the Defenders Saga, can be found streaming on Disney+.
