If Nicole Kidman, a massive movie star who pivoted to TV and became known as the “Queen of Peak TV,” perhaps someone like Ewan McGregor is quickly becoming her counterpart. McGregor, like Kidman, enjoyed much success on screen as a leading man, but as the mid-sized drama seemingly vanished in cinemas and shifted towards television, actors like the two of them, with an inclination for human stories, have pivoted right alongside the trend. McGregor has already done prestige TV projects like “Fargo,” “Halston,” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and now he’s ready to pop once more in Showtime’s “A Gentleman In Moscow.”

Created by Ben Vanstone, the writer, executive producer, and showrunner, and based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Amor Towles, “A Gentleman In Moscow” is set during the Russian Revolution (1017-1924)and centers on a Russian aristocrat (McGregor) who is spared from death and placed on house arrest while the Bolshevik Revolution plays out before him.
Elizabeth Winstead, McGregor’s real-life partner, co-stars as Anna Urbanova, a glamorous, independent, and self-made film actress at the height of her fame. She uses her wit and beauty to dazzle Count Alexander Rostov and is an enigmatic character who keeps her cards very close to her chest. Starring alongside them is the supporting cast of Leah Harvey, Johnny Harris, Paul Ready, Alexa Goodall, John Heffernan, Lyès Salem, Fehinti Balogun, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Dee Ahluwalia and Anastasia Hille. The ensemble drama was made by eOne is making in association with Paramount.

An adaptation of Amor Towles’ internationally best-selling novel, A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW, follows Count Alexander Rostov, played by Emmy® Award-winning actor Ewan McGregor (Star Wars franchise, Halston, Trainspotting), who, in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, finds that his gilded past has placed him on the wrong side of history. Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love. Series premiere streaming March 29 with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan.
