Steven Martin ‘A Documentary In 2 Pieces’ Film Arrives March 29 On Apple TV

Mar 6, 2024

“He’s the most idolized comedian ever,” Jerry Seinfeld says in the new trailer for “Steve!” a new documentary from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville Neville (“20 Feet from Stardom,” “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”) about the beloved American national treasure Steve Martin. “He reinvented stand up,” another off-screen talking head says, and you know you’re in store for a doc that sounds and looks like it’ll be as entertaining as it is ebullient in its praise of the “Only Murders in The Buildings” star.

Speaking of that Hulu series co-starring Martin Short and Selena Gomez, it’s given Martin reinvigorated fame and has introduced him to a whole new generation of viewers. But as “Steve!” notes, the actor never really went away and has always been here as a hugely influential force in comedy.
Additionally, as Apple TV says, it’s “one legend and two wild and crazy docs,” as “Steve!” is a documentary that comes in two parts, two pieces starting March 29.
Featuring never-seen-before behind-the-scenes footage, the doc includes Martin himself, obviously, but also names like Finn Wittrock, Martin Short, Tina Fey, Jerry Seinfeld, Eric Idle, Diane Keaton, Selena Gomez, and more, all singing the legend’s praises.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Steve Martin is one of the most beloved and enigmatic figures in entertainment. “STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces” dives into his extraordinary story from two distinct points of view, with companion documentaries that feature never-before-seen footage and raw insights into Steve’s personal and professional trials and triumphs. “Then” chronicles Steve Martin’s early struggles and meteoric rise to revolutionize standup before walking away at 35. “Now” focuses on the present day, with Steve Martin in the golden years of his career, retracing the transformation that led to happiness in his art and personal life. Hailing from A24 and Tremolo Productions, the two-part documentary is directed and produced by Academy Award® winner Morgan Neville (“20 Feet from Stardom,” “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”).
“STEVE! (Martin) A Documentary In 2 Pieces,” its full official title, will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on March 29, 2024. Watch the trailer below.
