‘Dune 2,’ ‘Road House,’ ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ & More

March is starting off strong with the highly-anticipated sequel, “Dune: Part Two.” The month continues strong, both through the annual SXSW festivities for film fanatics but for theatrical and streaming releases too. Sundance favorites such as “Love Lies Bleeding” are getting their theatrical review, along with 2023’s Cannes highlight “La Chimera.” Elsewhere, “Roadhouse” gets the remake treatment from Doug Liman and Jake Gyllenhaal,” while Sydney Sweeney gets to go full dramatic in the horror feature “Immaculate.” From big, broad humor to studies on the human condition, there’s something for every type of watcher this month.

“Dune: Part Two”In Denis Villeneuve’s sequel, Paul Atreides unites with the Fremen people of the desert planet Arrakis to wage war against House Harkonnen. “Problemista”A surrealist comedy from writer/director and star Julio Torres (co-creator of “Los Espookys”), the film follows an aspiring toy designer (Torres) who starts working for an erratic art-world outcast in New York, hoping to stay in the country and realize his dream before his work visa expires. “Ricky Stanicky”The latest film from Peter Farrelly (“Green Book,”) “Ricky Stanicky” stars Zac Efron, John Cena, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino, Lex Scott Davis, and William H. Macy. Farrelly co-writers the screenplay along with Brian Jarvis, James Lee Freeman, Pete Jones, and Mike Cerrone. The film follows three childhood friends who have used their childhood imaginary friend as an alibi for their immature behavior well into adulthood. However, they’re soon forced to hire an actor to play the fake character, who ends up taking the gig too far. Release Date: March 7 on Netflix.
“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”A supernatural comedy sequel to “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” filmmaker Jason Reitman stands aside for his co-writer Gil Kenan, who directs this story about an unleashed evil that could create a new Ice age. Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, reprise their roles from ‘Afterlife,’ alongside Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, plus, Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt.Release Date: March 14, 2024, via Sony Pictures.
