Netflix’s Action Adventure Series Returns for One Last Ride in Season 5 Trailer
Jun 20, 2026
The final season of Outer Banks is only a couple of months away, and Netflix has celebrated its imminent release with a brand-new trailer. This next batch of episodes will serve as the farewell for The Pogues. Outer Banks season 5 will feature returning stars Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey, Carlacia Grant, Austin North, and Fiona Palomo. Additionally, Tony Crane and Cullen Moss will be returning, only this time as series regulars. Set to the song “Left Hand Free” by alt-J, this new trailer teases an explosive conclusion for the band of misfits who originally started as a group of friends who set out to simply have fun. Outer Banks series creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke spoke to Tudum earlier in the year about the final season. When speaking about filming the final season, the trio described how they were “over the moon to be setting out on one last trip with the Pogues. Being back on set with our cast for this final round is nothing short of bittersweet and surreal. We can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store this season — it’s going to be a wild ride.” The new season is set to premiere on the streaming service on Aug. 20. The press release from Netflix says that Outer Banks Season 5 “finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ (Rudy Pankow) in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats.” The Season 4 finale of Outer Banks was the first in the series to have a feature-length episode. Not only was this extended runtime a set-up for an explosive conclusion, the extended runtime both set up an explosive conclusion and follows a Netflix trend—seen in shows like Stranger Things—of movie-length episodes.
It’s been almost two years since the release of Season 4 on Netflix, making this final Season feel like a long time coming. There is an impending goodbye with this new trailer, which features Cleo (Carlacia Grant) blowing up John’s (Chase Stokes) van, lovingly nicknamed “the Twinkie.” Seeing the vehicle’s destruction makes it feel like the end of an era, especially since the van has been heavily featured in every season of Outer Banks thus far. Given how the previous season ended with a tragic main character’s death, it only feels like there is more danger and heartbreak to come for the Pogues in their final adventure.
Much like the previous seasons, Outer Banks Season 5 will consist of ten episodes. Moreover, all the episodes are set to be released at once on Aug. 20, which is a change from the release style of the fourth season, in which the first half of the season was released in October 2024 and the second half in November 2024. The same thing was done for other Netflix originals like Stranger Things and Bridgerton, though the shift away from this release format may suggest that Netflix is trying out its original method to possibly help improve viewership.
