Margaret Qualley To Star In Hulu’s Upcoming Limited Series About Amanda Knox

Mar 8, 2024

What’s next for Margaret Qualley after “Drive-Away Dolls“? Well, she reunites with Yorgos Lanthimos for “Kinds Of Kindness,” which should be out later this year. And she’ll also star in the body horror pic “The Substance,” a film that marks Ray Liotta‘s final onscreen appearance. But after those projects? Deadline reports Qualley will return to TV for the first time since 2021’s “Maid” for a Hulu limited series covering the Amanda Knox story.

First announced in January, Hulu ordered the series this week for eight one-hour episodes from 20th Television and The Littlefield Company. “This Is Us” executive producer KJ Steinberg leads the team here, with other executive producers including Qualley, Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson and Graham Littlefield.  Monica Lewinski, Knox, and Chris Robinson also executive produce through Knox Robinson Productions.
Qualley as Knox is a major role for the young actress, and could easily notch her another Emmy nod after the two she received for turns in “Maid” and “Fosse/Verdon.” The series will cover Knox’s 16-year ordeal to clear her name after being incarcerated in Italy for the 2007 murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher. Knox was eventually acquitted of any wrongdoing. Her story has been dramatized before in the Lifetime movie “Amanda Knox: Murder On Trial In Italy,” and in the 2016 Netflix doc “Amanda Knox.” Knox also wrote a memoir of her ordeal in 2013, “Waiting To Be Heard.”
Making this limited series has been a top priority for Hulu for a while now, with Lewinski promoting it during a “Today” show appearance last October. ‘I wish it were announced already, but I’m executive producing a limited series that’s on another young woman who found her life decimated and ripped apart on the world stage, but she somehow managed to survive,” she said. “I think it’s going to be really powerful.”
If Hulu’s Knox series hits production by this summer, expect it to be in the mix for Emmy Awards in 2025.
