Mar 8, 2024
“You can spend a lifetime with someone, as a wife or a mother, but you can never really know who they are.” The mysteries of family and, sometimes, their deep, dark, unexpected secrets are explored in the new Peacock series, “Apples Never Fall.” It’s yet another series adaptation from New York Times bestseller Liane Moriarty, the author of “Big Little Lies,” and “Nine Perfect Strangers,” both series, among many others of hers, that have been adapted into popular prestige television shows.

Like those shows and their starry A-list casts, “Apples Never Fall” features an extensive cast of award-winning talents led by five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening (“American Beauty”), Emmy nominee Sam Neill (“Jurassic Park”), Alison Brie (“Glow” “Community”), and Jake Lacy (“The White Lotus”). They, along with Conor Merrigan-Turner and Essie Randles, are members of the Delaney family. They seem happy, but Joy, the matriarch (Bening), suddenly disappears, forcing her husband and four adult children to reassess their family history.
The series also stars Georgia Flood, Jeanine Serralles, and Dylan Thuraisingham and features guest appearances by Katrina Lenk, Timm Sharp, Nate Mann, Paula Andrea Placido, Pooja Shah, and Quentin Plair.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Apples Never Fall,” courtesy of Peacock:
Based on Liane Moriarty’s New York Times bestselling novel, Apples Never Fall centers on the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family. Former tennis coaches Stan (Sam Neill) and Joy (Annette Bening) have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives. While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children (Jake Lacy, Alison Brie, Conor Merrigan-Turner, Essie Randles), everything changes when a wounded young woman knocks on Joy and Stan’s door, bringing the excitement they’ve been missing. But when Joy suddenly disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents’ so-called perfect marriage as their family’s darkest secrets begin to surface.
Written and show-run by executive producer Melanie Marnich (“The Expatriates”), “Apples Never Fall” debuts on March 14, 2024; all seven one-hour episodes are available to binge that day. Watch an exclusive featurette for the series below, and take a refresher on the trailer while you’re at it.
