Mar 13, 2024
Amazon Prime Video‘s acclaimed sci-fi Western series “Outer Range” is finally making its return. Today, the streaming service announced the series will debut on May 16 and shared some new first-look images from the show.
Oscar-nominee Josh Brolin (“Dune: Part Two”) returns to lead the cast of “Outer Range” which also features an impressive ensemble that includes Imogen Poots (“Baltimore”), Lili Taylor (“Manhunt”), Tamara Podemski (“Reservation Dogs”), Lewis Pullman (“Lessons In Chemistry”), Tom Pelphrey (“Ozark”), Noah Reid (“Schitt’s Creek”), Shaun Sipos (“Reacher”), Isabel Arraiza (“The Little Things”), Olive Abercrombie (“The Haunting of Hill House”), and Will Patton (“Horizon: An American Saga”).

“Outer Range” was a critical darling and received a strong reception for its first season, including from our own rave review, which you can read right here. There was a bit of a creative shakeup with season two as creator/showrunner Brian Watkins exited and was replaced with Charles Murray (“True Story,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “Luke Cage”), and should be interesting to see how this new season matches up with the first one.
If you’re unfamiliar with the acclaimed streaming series, here is the official synopsis via Amazon, but we’ve also described it as “The X-Files” meets “Yellowstone” for shorthand.
“Outer Range” centers on Royal Abbott (Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable phenomenon at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness in the form of a dark void. The mystery surrounding the enigmatic void on the west pasture of the Abbott family ranch deepens in Season Two, as Royal and his wife Cecelia (Taylor) struggle to keep their family together in the aftermath of their granddaughter’s sudden disappearance. The stakes have never been higher for the Abbotts, who now face threats on multiple fronts. Outer Range’s second season propels its characters deeper into the void with profound and unforeseen circumstances that could shake the very foundations of time itself.
Josh Brolin told Collider last month that he’ll be one of the filmmakers directing episodes in season two. As for what’s in store, Brolin said that “it looks incredible,” and he is “very, very happy with it.” “Not that I was totally disappointed with the first season, I just felt like we were finding ourselves, and I feel like we found ourselves now,” added Brolin.
“Outer Range” returns to Prime Video on May 16. Check out some first-look images from the new season of the series below.
