More than a year has passed since the television universe based on the successful novels by George R. R. Martin presented its first spinoff after the end of the popular main series. House of the Dragon was the first attempt to expand the franchise and proved that, despite the criticized ending of Game of Thrones, fans wanted new stories within the same universe. The series was a resounding success, and it did not take long to confirm its renewal for a second installment. Check out the Black trailer below:
While most of the big Hollywood productions had to stop filming during the strikes, House of the Dragon, like Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, was able to finish shooting its second season, which means that yes, the show will be able to meet its initial return date. House of the Dragon focuses on the reign of House Targaryen and, primarily, how family conflicts led to its downfall. The Next Game of Thrones’ Spinoff Is on Its Way
HBO
House of the Dragon is the first Game of Thrones spinoff, but it certainly won’t be the last. HBO has been trying to expand the franchise for years, and even some shows that got their pilots filmed were canceled. But there is already a new series in development. This is the adaptation of Tales of Dunk and Egg, a series of stories that focus on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen.
The series, tentatively titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, would begin filming next spring, depending on the end of the ongoing actors’ strike, as Bloys revealed during the event. So it could hit the screen in 2025.
As for the rest of the spinoffs in the franchise, at the moment no news has been revealed. Although there will surely be quite a few new stories in the future if the upcoming shows continue to be successful. Among the potential new stories is a sequel to the main series focused on Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow; another that has Corlys Velaryon as the protagonist that would be titled The Sea Snake; a prequel titled Ten Thousand Ships, focusing on Princess Nymeria from House Martell; and two animated shows.
