Sydney Sweeney Says S3 Delays Will Allow “So Much Room For Growth” & Promises A “Very, Very Wild” Arc For Cassie
Mar 28, 2024
Earlier this week, HBO gave an update for “Euphoria” Season 3 amid rumors of the network axing Sam Levinson‘s hit series. And no, it’s not canceled, only delayed, so that Levinson may finish his script and accommodate a time jump between S2 and S3. “Euphoria” fans may be bummed they need to wait longer than until next year for a new season, but star Sydney Sweeney couldn’t be happier. In fact, she thinks it’ll benefit both her and her character, the ever-histrionic Cassie Howard.

IndieWire reports that Sweeney discussed the HBO show’s future in a new cover story for Who What Wear, and she’s okay with the delay in filming. “I actually like it because there’s so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character,” said the actress. And Sweeney also promised that “Euphoria” S3 will be worth the wait. “It’s going to be very, very wild,” she teased, having already taken a peek at the upcoming season’s story.
HBO’s delay of “Euphoria” must have happened quickly in the past couple of weeks. At SXSW in Austin earlier this month, Sweeney told MTV that she would “go into “Euphoria”” next on her production schedule. But then news of the show’s postponement broke, and now it’s unclear when “Euphoria” S3 will start shooting, let alone premiere. HBO head Casey Bloys confirmed last November that the networks had a 2025 premiere date planned for the new season, but now it’s safe to expect S3 out in 2026 at the earliest.
With the “Euphoria” delay, an HBO representative said “in the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.” Sweeney will have no problem there, as she told WWW that she’s “very, very deep in the trenches with a lot of projects.” That includes Ron Howard‘s survival thriller “Eden,” Sweeney’s upcoming Apple TV+ thriller “Echo Valley,” and her “Barbarella” remake. And the Hollywood rising star is in the midst of the busiest period of her career, with “Anyone But You,” “Madame Web,” and “Immaculate” all hitting theaters in the past four months.
So while “Euphoria” S3 remains of TV’s most anticipated projects, Sweeney won’t have to worry about filling up her interim calendar. Nor will her fellow co-stars and rising stars like Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schaefer; or Zendaya, who’s already an A-lister. But as for when “Euphoria” will start production and premiere on HBO? That remains a mystery for now, at least until Sam Levinson is ready to move forward.
