Summary

The final season of
Outlander
is set for late 2025, and viewers should prepare for tears, lots of drama, and emotional goodbyes.
Lauren Lyle, who plays Marsali, hints at a lot of drama and resolution in the eighth season.
The spin-off series
Outlander: Blood of My Blood
is in the works, and the second part of season seven is coming in November 2024.

While the sixth season of Outlander has just recently made its way to Netflix, the first half of the seventh season has already aired (with the second half coming in November 2024), and the eighth and final season has already been written and is in production. “Prepare for tears,” said actor Lauren Lyle of the final season of Outlander, which will premiere in the Fall or Winter of 2025. Lyle portrays Marsali MacKimmie Fraser, Laoghaire MacKenzie and Simon MacKimmie’s oldest daughter, and Fergus Fraser’s wife. “You’ll cry loads,” warned Lyle, who was absent from the show in season seven.

“They have not held back on giving you some drama, and it’s the last go, so stuff kicks up for the final time,” continued Lyle in breaking down the last season of the hit show. She joked that her character, who has had six children, is finally not pregnant in the series:

So, I am back. I’ve shot some already
. I can’t tell you what I’ve shot. There has been a clip released of me back on set on my first day, and I’m not pregnant, which is really nice, because my character is perpetually pregnant. So that’s quite nice. We’ve got some of the original kids that have always played my kids. It’s been really cool to come back.
I wasn’t sure if I ever would because I’ve been away for a bit now
, doing my detective show,
Karen Pirie
, which has been going really well.”

“But Outlander has been such a huge part of my life and Marsali has been such a formative character and role for me in my life,” she went on. “I feel like I’ve really grown up with her and I love her. I think she’s badass, and really unlike a woman of her time.”

Saying Goodbye to Outlander

“It’s also quite emotional to be able to say goodbye to the character. It’s a huge end of an era. It’s one of the biggest shows in America,” continued Lyle about returning to the final season. She added:

No one knew that it would be as big as it became. I couldn’t believe the fan base I was stepping into when I joined, and it’s totally changed my life. I felt like I owed it to the fans. I felt like I owed it to myself and my career a little bit to say goodbye. I’m thrilled to be doing that.

Lauren Lyle is currently starring in the fun shark thriller, Something in the Water. Outlander may be ending, but there is still a spinoff to look forward to, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which currently has no release date.
