Steve Carell To Star In New HBO Comedy Series From ‘Ted Lasso’ Creator Bill Lawrence

May 20, 2024

Though Steve Carell has tried his best to work on great TV shows in recent years, he still can’t shake “The Office.” Sure, he’s made plenty of films and proven he’s a wonderful actor, but everytime he works on a new show, such as the Netflix comedy, “Space Force,” it’s always just a reminder that he was at his peak on “The Office.” Well, now he’s headed to HBO (a network synonymous with quality) to once again try to shake off that ‘Office’ smell.

According to WB and HBO, Steve Carell is set to star in and produce a new, untitled comedy series for the network. The series comes from producers-writers Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. Here’s the official description of the series: “A single-camera comedy set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.”
“HBO has long been a standard bearer of quality TV,” said Lawrence. “Getting to do a show there with Steve Carell is an immediate career highlight for Matt and me. Nothing can go wrong now.”
Channing Dungey, Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman and CEO, added, “We’re so excited to be collaborating with the dream team of Steve Carell, Bill Lawrence, and Matt Tarses on what is sure to be a brilliant new series. Collectively, they have been at the center of some of the most iconic and successful shows in television history. With thanks to our partners at HBO, we look forward to bringing them together to deliver the next great comedy.”
As mentioned, Carell is probably best known for his run on “The Office.” In recent years, he’s also starred in series such as “Space Force,” “The Morning Show,” and “The Patient.” Lawrence is probably best known for his work on Apple TV+ hit, “Ted Lasso.” Tarses is a longtime collaborator with Lawrence and is one of the producers on “Bad Monkey.”
It’s still too early to know when we might see this new project arrive.
