Unboxing Insanity Featured, Reviews Film Threat
May 23, 2024
I guess my first question is, why would a dude in witness protection start his own YouTube channel? In Christopher Brown’s short film, Unboxing Insanity, he plays one such dude.
Chris Brown (Christopher Brown) is living a nine-to-five life as a duct cleaning customer service representative who receives a package. The package is labeled with his former name, Victor Burke, and like any influencer, he decides to unbox it for his streaming channel, Unboxing Insanity. The box contains evidence from his former life as Burke.
“…labeled with his former name…like any influencer, he decides to unbox it for his streaming channel…”
Unboxing Insanity is a WTF DIY short film of a man whose life is slowly unraveling and where events from his past are delivered on his doorstep, pushing him to the point of insanity. Weird is the best way to describe this short, and when you have no money, weird is a good direction to take. Christopher Brown gives a good performance as a crazy man going crazy and, as a filmmaker, admirably escalates the situation.
The only thing keeping Unboxing Insanity from getting a hardy recommendation is, within all the insanity, finding something to say above the story being told. In other words, I’m looking for a film that’s more than mere narrative. Though we are given a true WTF story, the final image is something worth chewing on. You’ll look for something audiences will take away and chew on long after.
