We Know Where The Curtain Closes On This Particular Chapter
May 29, 2024
Even nearly five years later, folks are still salty about the conclusion of “Game of Thrones.” The series’ final season nearly destroyed the show’s legacy, and that was mainly due to the fact that the books have yet to be written and the show felt compelled to cram so much plot into a handful of episodes. According to the showrunner of “House of the Dragon,” there’s no need to worry about the series’ conclusion.

Speaking to Variety, in a profile about “House of the Dragon” star Matt Smith, showrunner Ryan Condal talked about how he plans on ending the hit “Game of Thrones” spinoff. That is to say, he teased that the idea of where and how the show will end has already been discussed, so there’s no concern about fumbling the ending.
The showrunner said that while writing Season 2, “it became clear what we needed to do, and how to bring it to an end, and where. We have the advantage that the book is here, it’s finished, and we know where the curtain closes on this particular chapter in the Targaryen history.”
It’s no understatement to say ‘Dragon’ has a massive advantage over ‘Thrones’ because the story has already been laid out by author George R.R. Martin. There is no concern that “House of the Dragon” will have to go off-book, so to speak. Instead, already having the whole story laid out, Condal and his crew can properly pace the series so that fans don’t feel cheated at all.
Of course, if you’re someone who loves spoilers and isn’t willing to wait to see how the TV series plays out, you can go buy Martin’s book, “Fire & Blood.” Or, if you’re even more impatient, you can just go to the book’s wiki or read spoilers on a number of websites. The info is out there.
“House of the Dragon” Season 2 debuts on HBO on June 16.
