Fallout Could Be Expanding With Amazon Spinoffs

Jul 23, 2024

Exciting news for fans of Fallout, the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama that premiered on Prime Video earlier this year: The dust from its explosive first season has only now started to settle and Amazon has revealed that not only is Falloutgearing up for Season 2, but the studio is exploring the possibility of spinoffs set within the same universe.

In other recent news, Fallout also received 17 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Walton Goggins. It is a great achievement for the series’ creators, Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. During a recent interview with The Wrap, Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the duo while teasing possibilities for the series’ future.

Fallout 4/5 Release Date April 10, 2024 Seasons 1

Said Vernon:

“We already have scripts in hand for Season 2. So we’re really far ahead because we knew we had something special all along. It’s premature for me to give you a release date. But I’ll tell you, we are working hard to be back as fast as possible. So I think people will be pleased with how quickly we’re able to get the show back. We just want to make sure we deliver everything that is on the page. And ‘Fallout’ is a big world, we’ve had a great partnership with Bethesda. So we’re in all sorts of conversations about what the future looks like. But we definitely think ‘Fallout’ is a multi-season show that can go in a lot of different directions. So we’re very excited about what’s been laid out so far.”

Is a Fallout Spinoff on the Horizon?

Fallout is based on the beloved video game franchise by Bethesda Softworks. It is set in an alternate history where nuclear devastation reshaped the world. We follow Lucy (played by the remarkable Ella Purnell), a young woman who braves all sorts of challenges in the wasteland that is Los Angeles after stepping out of the safety of Vault 33. Starring alongside Purnell are Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Walton Goggins.

Both fans and critics lauded Fallout for its intricate storytelling and staying faithful to the game’s retro-futuristic aesthetic. At the same time, they pointed out just how expansive the series’ universe could become. And with a rich lore spanning multiple games, the studio has no shortage of stories to tap and explore. Sanders opened up on the idea of Fallout spinoffs:

“These days we’re really trying to make sure that we really build the mothership in a way that could earn its way into a greater expansion and Bethesda has lots of plans for the video game franchise. So those conversations are probably a little premature at this point. But we’re excited to have such a big landscape. We want to make sure that anything that we do truly feels earned and the fans will tell us if they want more.”

With Sanders concluding the subject on an optimistic note, fans can expect the saga to continue unfolding down the road. After all, from the Vaults to the Brotherhood of Steel, from morally ambiguous factions to mutated creatures, Fallout has several intriguing aspects that can lead its narrative in unexpected directions.
