Twisters Star Glen Powell Is Joining Family Guy

Jul 31, 2024

Glen Powell, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars at the moment, is joining the Griffins at Quahog for a special episode of Family Guy. However, it won’t be a regular episode with a voice cameo by a famous star, as it usually happens in the show. Powell, the star of blockbusters like Twisters, Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Anyone But You, will join the voice cast of the Fox animated series for its Halloween special, to be released exclusively on Hulu on October 14, 2024.

Powell’s participation in Family Guy was announced during the show’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend. Even though the show officially won’t return to television until 2025, creator Seth MacFarlane had already teased everyone this past April when he said that two holiday episodes were being planned for Hulu exclusive release in 2024. He had also said that these would be Halloween and Christmas specials, respectively.

Who is Glen Powell Playing in Family Guy?
During the SDCC presentation, as reported by Comic Book, Powell’s casting was confirmed for the Halloween special, where he will play “the reigning champion in Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest.” Per Hulu’s official synopsis:

Peter and his friends aim to unseat the reigning champion in Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest by any means necessary.

When Is Family Guy Season 23 Airing and What Will It Be About?

Family Guy is currently in production of its 23rd season, which will air on Fox in 2025. As to what it will be about, the notes in the article tease the following storylines:

“In Season 23, Peter accidentally exposes his inability to throw a ball, Meg starts dating the giant chicken’s son and Chris loses his earring in a
Lord of the Rings
-inspired escapade. Additionally, Stewie finds out his stuffed bear Rupert was made in China and makes it his mission to take him back there to meet his family. The series will also parody
The White Lotus
, as the Griffin family vacation at a luxury resort, where Stewie worries that his wealthy new friends plan to sacrifice him in a volcano.”

Related Seth MacFarlane Addresses Family Guy’s Offensive Humor Not Caving to Cancel Culture; ‘Could We Defend This?’ Seth MacFarlane has broken down why controversy over Family Guy’s often offensive humor is something that is usually misinterpreted.

The show is mostly known for paying no attention to primetime rules since its conception, and more than once, it’s faced cancellation. However, at the same time, it’s one of Fox’s (ahem, Disney’s) best bets when it comes to adult-oriented content. The story about a dysfunctional family whose members are anything but ordinary has the ability to renew itself each year by taking its jokes just a bit too far, cleverly breaking the fourth wall, and making fun of every piece of pop culture.

One detail that was shared in the panel, and which will be a first for the show, is that in season 23, Lois will finally understand what Stewie is saying. Oftentimes, he has tried to kill his own mother, but apparently, all she hears is baby talk. All that will change in the upcoming season, which will be released months after Powell breaks his own rules of decency and joins the cast of one of TV’s most provocative shows.
