Yes, TV really ramps up in the fall, but must-see television to watch in August still has offerings. For one, there’s a decent amount of animated offerings, “Batman: Caped Crusader” on Netflix, a new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” spin-off on Paramount, and Netflix is keeping the “Terminator” franchise alive on its streaming service.

While there are a few new shows to take note of, “Kaos” with Jeff Goldblum (Netflix) and Apple TV+’s “Bad Monkey” dramedy starring Vince Vaughn, August TV is mainly driven by many famous and acclaimed returning TV shows. The most anticipated by most audiences is probably Hulu’s star-studded “Only Murders In The Building,” but genre-heads will rejoice at the return of Prime Video’s “Lord Of The Rings” series. “Batman: Caped Crusader”
Bruce Timm (“Batman The Animated Series”) teams up with Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams for the latest iteration of Batman. “Batman: Caped Crusader” returns to the heroes’ noir and ‘40s-inspired roots as it delves into the underworld of Gotham’s corruption. Hamish Linklater, Christina Ricci, Dan Donohue, Minnie Driver, Krystal Joy Brown, and more lend their voices to some of D.C.’s most iconic characters.

“A Good Girls Guide for Murder”
Five years after the murder of a 17-year-old girl in a sleepy English town, one student is determined to uncover the truth and find the real killer. Based on the Holly Jackson novel of the same name and adapted by Poppy Cogan, the series is directed by Dolly Wells (“Doll & Em,” “Good Posture”) and stars Emma Myers (“The Glades”). Co-stars include Zain Iqbal, Asha Banks, Raiko Gohara, Henry Ashton, Carla Woodcock, Mathew Baynton, Gary Beadle, and Anna Maxwell Martin.
Premiere Date: August 1 on Netflix.

“Umbrella Academy” (Season 4)
Based on the graphic novel created and written by Gerard Way, Netflix’s science fantasy/black comedy superhero series returns for a fourth and final season this month. Created by Steve Blackman, the series centers on a family of former child heroes, now grown apart, who must reunite to continue to protect the world. The series stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, Colm Feore, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross.
Premiere Date: August 8 on Netflix. 

“Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”
The success of the 2023 animated film, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” yields a TV spin-off, naturally. Set two months after the events of that movie; the series follows the Turtles as they navigate their dual lives as both teenagers and heroes in New York City. And much of the same voice cast returns: Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon as the four famous turtles and Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil. Chris Yost, known for writing on Marvel’s “Thor” movies and Lucasfilm’s “The Mandalorian,” co-show runs.
