MCU Fans Call for Wesley Snipes to Return as Blade After Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo

Aug 8, 2024

This year’s Marvel outing Deadpool & Wolverine features all manner of crowd-pleasing cameos alongside the titular duo, most notable of which is surely Wesley Snipes, who reprises the role of the vampire hunter Blade. During his surprising comeback in Deadpool & Wolverine, Snipes’ Blade says, “There’s only been one Blade, there’s only ever gonna be one Blade.” Since his shock return, some Marvel fans have taken to social media to call for the Blade 2 star to continue playing the role in the MCU. Even Ryan Reynolds now wants a Logan-esque conclusion…

The Blade reboot has seriously struggled to get going, with the project losing directors, writers, and frustrating lead star and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali along the way. No doubt many Blade fans now feel it might be simpler to scrap the new take and simply continue the story with Snipes’ iteration.

Following his cameo, during which he teams up with Deadpool and Wolverine to fight the multiverse villain Cassandra, some fans have been left wondering whether the long-awaited reboot starring Mahershala Ali will be canceled…but Snipes has now shared his reaction to this sentiment. Taking to social media, Snipes shared a screenshot of an article with the headline, “Cancel Mahershala Ali’s Blade Movie And Bring Wesley Snipes’ Daywalker Into The MCU.” The actor’s caption reads, “Y’all, crazy! Hahaha,” which is not necessarily a dismissal of the idea…

Wesley Snipes’ Blade Is Now in the Record Books

Since featuring in Deadpool & Wolverine, Wesley Snipes has revealed that he never thought he would reprise the role again. The last audiences saw of this version of the beloved Marvel character was two decades ago, and his surprise cameo not only allowed the actor to return to his most iconic role after all these years, but also puts his name in the Guinness World Records.

Thanks to his role in Deadpool & Wolverine, Snipes has now been awarded “the record of longest career as a live action Marvel character.” His comeback “comes 25 years 340 days after he first played the character in Blade (1998),” according to the records body, with Snipes snatching the comeback record from Hugh Jackman, whose first appearance as Wolverine happened 24 years ago in 2000’s X-Men.
