I Know What You Did Last Summer Legacy Star Confirms Talks For New Movie Return After Expressing Interest
Aug 26, 2024
Summary
Brandy is in talks to reprise the role of Karla in the upcoming
I Know What You Did Last Summer
sequel.
Karla’s role in the new film is unknown as her whereabouts post-1997’s
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
remain a mystery.
Karla’s return would make sense considering her connection to Julie and Ray from the original sequel.
I Know What You Did Last Summer may have another legacy actor coming aboard. The I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel is set to star Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Hauer-King, with original cast members Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. in talks to appear as their original characters Julie and Ray. In July, Brandy expressed interest in reprising the role of Julie’s roommate Karla, who survived the movie’s 1997 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, though at the time she had not been approached by the production.
While speaking with ET recently, Brandy revealed that she is now also in talks to join the cast of the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, which is being helmed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and will be the fourth feature-length installment in the franchise. She confirmed that “they have [reached out]” after she expressed interest in appearing in the project, though she is not sure “how [Karla] would come back.” Read her full quote below:
I’ve heard some things about it. So hopefully. I don’t know how [Karla] would come back. I haven’t thought about that yet. But I know that she should come back. She should definitely come back. They have [reached out], so we’ll see what happens. I would love that.
How Could Karla Appear In The I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel?
The Character’s Whereabouts Are Unknown
So far, not many details are known about the upcoming legacy sequel, so the way that Karla could factor into the plot is unknown. There are also no details known about her whereabouts following her survival of the 1997 movie, despite the franchise continuing after that installment with the 2006 direct-to-video sequel I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer and a short-lived Prime Video reboot series that ran for one season in 2021. Although the surviving characters Julie and Ray are mentioned briefly in I’ll Always Know, Karla is not referenced at all in either property.
Brandy has similarly not appeared in the I Know What You Did Last Summer cast in any capacity since her 1997 appearance, leaving the character’s fate a complete mystery. However, before an epilogue showing Julie and Ray being menaced once more by the killer that may ultimately prove to have been a nightmare, Karla was shown embracing Julie after surviving their slasher ordeal. While she was shaken by the death of her boyfriend Tyrell (Mekhi Phifer), she was otherwise alive and well.
I Know What You Did Last Summer could easily fold her into the legacy characters’ storyline, especially if Jennifer Love Hewitt reprises her role. It is not outside the realm of possibility that Julie and Karla could have continued to be friends after the events of the 1997 movie, especially considering the fact that Karla and Ray are the only surviving people Julie’s age that she has in her life. It would make perfect sense for Karla to still be involved in Julie’s affairs, especially if she becomes wrapped up in another string of mysterious murders.
