Rapper Lil Baby Released After Las Vegas Arrest

Aug 30, 2024

Rapper Lil Baby has reportedly been released from custody on bond in Las Vegas after he was arrested on Monday morning for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

The 29-year-old Atlanta-born rapper, whose legal name is Dominique Armani Jones, was taken into custody on a suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon charge while on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, according to The Associated Press. However, his attorneys released a statement to the Los Angeles Times indicating that they are unclear why Jones would be arrested on this weapons charge when he has a valid permit in his home state to carry a concealed weapon.

“[Jones has] a valid Georgia Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit,” attorneys Drew Findling and David Chesnoff said in their statement to the Times. “On his behalf, we are actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding his arrest in Las Vegas.”

Nevada does not appear on the Georgia Attorney General’s list of states where its weapons carry license is recognized.

Clark County court records show that no charges were filed against Jones and that he was released from custody after an initial court appearance and posting a $5000 bond, the AP reports; He is due to appear in the Clark County court on Oct. 1. The Hollywood Reporter has placed records requests with both Las Vegas Police and Clark County courts but did not immediately receive a response.

Lil Baby was in Las Vegas to perform at the birthday party for Los Angeles Clippers star James Harden on Sunday night. Clips on TikTok show the rap star at the event.

The rapper’s career took off in 2017 with the mixtape Harder than Hard, which featured the Billboard Hot 100 hit “My Dawg,” and its follow-up, “Too Hard.” His second album, 2020’s My Turn, hit no. 3 in the Billboard Charts and that year he won a Grammy for his work on Kanye West’s “Hurricane.” Lil Baby also took home the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist award at the 2021 BET Awards and was named 2020’s Artist of the Year at the Apple Music Awards.
