DC Video Nails 25 Perfect Casting Choices For James Gunn’s DCU, From Batman To Green Arrow
Aug 31, 2024
A TikTok video shares 25 perfect ideas for casting choices in James Gunn’s DCU, featuring many popular characters like Batman and Green Arrow. The video is an extensive list of DC heroes and villains and includes more minor characters like Spoiler and Orphan. The DCU is just beginning, so Gunn hasn’t announced many of his casting decisions outside Superman, but audiences love to speculate who the best choices are.
The video, posted by disl0yal0rder, includes a few rumored casting choices, some returning DCEU actors, and many original options that hadn’t been mentioned before. Some notable fan castings in this video are Jensen Ackles as Batman, Mahershala Ali as Martian Manhunter, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Stephen Amell as Green Arrow, and Glen Powell as Booster Gold. Many of these choices are realistic while others are wishful thinking.

A few of the user’s best picks include Misha Collins as Harvey Dent, Ella Purnell as Punchline, Michael C. Hall as Punchline, Stephanie Beatriz as Batwoman, and Claudia Doumit as Talia al Ghul. Gunn likely gets sent casting ideas all the time, so it’s probable he hasn’t seen this video. However, if he does, he should take many of these suggestions into consideration.
Actor DC Character Jensen Ackles Bruce Wayne/Batman Claudia Doumit Talia al Ghul Wolfgang Novogratz Dick Grayson/Nightwing Kiera Allen Barbara Gordon/Batgirl/Oracle Benjamin Wadsworth Jason Todd/Red Hood Dallas Liu Tim Drake/Red Robin Dove Cameron Stephanie Brown/Spoiler Stephanie Beatriz Kate Kane/Batwoman Lana Condor Cassandra Cain/Orphan Damson Idris Duke Thomas/Signal Ian McKellen Alfred Pennyworth Margot Robbie Harley Quinn Michael C. Will Any Of These DC Casting Choices Actually Happen?
It’s hard to say whether most or any of these casting choices will actually happen. However, there are a few that can be safely ruled out. For example, Ian McKellen as Alfred Pennyworth would be perfectly cast, but McKellen is 85. It’s extremely unlikely that Gunn would cast someone his age to play a recurring character in a cinematic universe, and McKellen likely wouldn’t sign on. The same can be said for Willem Dafoe as the Joker. Dafoe is an actor who many want to see as the Joker, but he’s nearing 70 and the Joker will likely appear more than once.
Other interesting picks are the returning DCEU actors like Robbie and Karen Fukuhara, who played Katana in 2016’s Suicide Squad. Despite the DC universe’s reboot, a few DCEU actors are returning, like John Cena as Peacemaker and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. It’s not impossible that Robbie and Fukuhara could return, even though it would make the continuity more confusing. Other returning actors like Amell’s Green Lantern are less likely as Warner Bros. moves away from The CW universe.
Karen Gillan as Poison Ivy and Dave Bautista as Bane are the most likely from this list as the two actors have publicly expressed interest in these roles. The two also worked with Gunn in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, so they’ll likely be in the DCU even if they’re in different roles. Ackles as Batman and Powell as Booster Gold are also popular choices, and both actors would create plenty of excitement. Gunn is currently focused on 2025’s Superman, but it will be interesting to see who he picks as he fills out the DCU roster.
