Prime Video Has A Spinoff Series For Maria Sten’s Frances Neagley In The Works

Sep 5, 2024

After two seasons, Prime Video‘s “Reacher” is one of the streamer’s biggest hits. And that’s all the reason Amazon needs to expand its universe, right? Variety reports that a “Reacher” spinoff series is in development at the streaming and rental service, and it centers around a fan-favorite character: Maria Sten‘s Frances Neagley, one of Reacher’s closest allies.

Sten shows up as Neagley in the past two seasons of “Reacher,” an old comrade from the 100th SIU who now works as a corporate security professional. As Reacher’s most-trusted friend, Neagley plays a big role in the plot of both Seasons 1 and 2 of the hit show, and Sten will be back to play the character in Season 3. Next season adapts Book 7 of Lee Child‘s series, “Persuader“; here’s a logline: “Reacher must go undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past.” Along with Sten and returning star Alan Ritchson, new “Reacher” S3 cast members include Anthony Michael Hall, Sonya Cassidy, Johnny Berchtold, Brian Tee, Roberto Montesinos, and Daniel David Stewart.
But what will Neagley’s standalone show be about? Amazon declined any comment about the series except that “Reacher” showrunner and executive producer Nick Santora will pen the spinoff. Still, it’s no surprise Prime Video wants to capitalize on the success of Santora’s show. The streamer greenlit S3 of “Reacher” before S2 aired late last year, which went on to become Prime Video’s #1 title over its premiere weekend.  What’s more, the show’s global audience exploded between seasons, growing 50% in three days after the S2 debuted on December 15, 2023, debuting at #2 on the Nielsen top 10 streaming charts. If Prime Video duplicates that success with “Reacher” S3 or its Neagley spinoff, what do they have to lose?
Let’s see how “Reacher” S3 does with audiences early next year before any further speculation, however.  Child executive produces that series along with Santora, Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Mick Betancourt, as well as David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television.  Ritchson also joins the executive producer series for S3. “Reacher” is an Amazon Studios, Skydance, and CBS Studios (formerly Paramount Television Studios) co-production, with Carolyn Harris and Kenny Madrid as executives-in-charge for Skydance TV.
So when will Maria Sten’s Neagley have the spotlight put on here?  Stay tuned for more details on the character’s spinoff series, as well as an official release date for “Reacher” S3.  The safe bet for the later is Q1 2025.
