Ewan McGregor Says There Are “Another Few Stories To Tell” For Him As Obi-Wan Kenobi

Sep 11, 2024

When it was announced that Ewan McGregor was returning to the “Star Wars” universe for “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” fans were elated. Then the series came out and it was generally welcomed by fans, but there were some who weren’t huge fans. Let’s just say, now, the desire to see McGregor return isn’t as rampant as it was before. That isn’t stopping the actor from trying to make it happen.

Speaking to Variety, Ewan McGregor talked about his long career, including his decades-long role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the “Star Wars” universe. And when talking about playing the legendary Jedi, McGregor talked about his desire to come back, not just once, but multiple times in the future.
“I really do hope we get a chance to do another one,” McGregor said. “Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”
First, you have to admit that he’s probably not wrong. The folks at Lucasfilm could probably come up with a few different stories that would bring McGregor back as Obi-Wan. Does that mean they should? Well, maybe.
Right now, it’s clear “Star Wars” is in a bit of trouble. Whenever the franchise tries something new, like the most recent series, “The Acolyte,” it becomes incredibly divisive. At least with “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” there didn’t seem to be a culture war about the storyline. That’s not to say “Star Wars” should only play it safe, but if you’re just thinking about this all as a business, it makes sense.

All that to say, why not give McGregor another shot at it? What’s the worst that could happen? It’s not like it will divide the fan base further and pit the two sides against each other like so much “Star Wars” content does nowadays.
