A New Cast Gives Us Their Take On A Winning Formula
Sep 18, 2024
We already know that Peacock is working on a follow-up to “The Office.” However, instead of trying to do a true sequel, focusing on the characters we know and love, the streamer is using a whole new cast and setting it at a dying newspaper. It could actually work. Unfortunately, it looks like Australia and Prime Video are teaming up to just remake “The Office” except this time it’s, uh, Australian?

As seen in the trailer, “The Office” (the Australian edition) looks to be an example of a studio trying hard to mimic the formula that made the American ‘Office’ so beloved and only changing a few things here or there. Instead of a Michael Scott leading the way, we have a woman making cringy jokes. Instead of Dwight Schrute, we have a younger woman who looks to be super uptight and unaware of the humor. Instead of Pam and Jim, we have… well, they look to be completely mimicking the Pam and Jim romance angle. It just doesn’t look all that great.
Of course, it’s difficult to say whether or not the series is going to be good based solely on a trailer. I’m sure the trailer for the American ‘Office’ would have pissed off the fans of the British show years ago. Hell, the American version basically stole the scripts for Season 1 from what the British show did, and people still watched.

So, the moral of the story, I guess, is to not come to complete judgment just yet. We have to wait until we can see a few episodes before we can write this off or not.
“The Office” (Australia) is set to arrive on Prime Video (in Australia and New Zealand, at least) on October 18. You can watch the trailer below:
