Jonathan Majors Selling $140 Autographs at Famous Monsters Convention
Sep 19, 2024
If someone can’t be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or other big Hollywood projects, one has to find a living elsewhere. That is the case for former Marvel actor Jonathan Majors, who fell from grace after being found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment at the end of 2023. The major roles he was once up for have dried up, so it’s not surprising that he has turned to a new business venture, which involves appearing at conventions and selling his autograph for an outrageous price.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Majors will make his first convention appearance at the Famous Monsters Fest in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania this Sunday. In addition to appearing at the convention, the actor will also be selling his autograph for the hefty price of $140 each. There will also be professional shots of the former Marvel star being sold for $160, a far cry from what he brought in for some of his major roles in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III.
Could Jonathan Majors Be Headed for a Comeback?
The Famous Monsters convention is not a step-down for most performers and creatives. Director and writer Andy Serkis, who is set to direct the next Lord of the Rings installment, will be in attendance as well as classic sci-fi actor George Takei of Star Trek fame, and Deadpool & Wolverine and Halloween actor Tyler Mane. These conventions can pull in big crowds, and they are also relatively lucrative for those in appearance. However, considering the trajectory that Majors was on before his arrest and conviction for assaulting ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, it would be considered a step-down for a man of Majors’ ego. Could this be a way for Majors to make some kind of comeback? Only time will tell.
Before the actor was arrested and subsequently sentenced, this was the classic story of a performer on the rise. Majors was known for roles in Da 5 Bloods and Lovecraft Country, the latter of which earned the ctor a Primetime Emmy nomination. Sending him even further into the stratosphere was landing the role of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU, a part that was intended to be the next Big Bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He appeared in the aforementioned Quantumania and, as other variants of Kang in the Disney+ series, Loki. In addition to this, Creed III was released soon after the Ant-Man film and became a critical and box-office success. The rest of that year could’ve been capped off with more Marvel glory and even potential awards season praise for his role in Magazine Dreams.
However, by March 2023, after Quantumania and Creed III were released, it all came tumbling down when Majors was arrested for physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Once the story went public, the actor lost endorsements, was dropped from new projects, and Magazine Dreams lost distribution from Searchlight Pictures. His MCU fate wasn’t determined until he was found guilty of assault and harassment, with Marvel quickly cutting ties with the actor. Marvel eventually went another direction with their main villain, replacing Majors with Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Doom, something the actor expressed disappointment over.
