A Pup Named Scooby-Doo Series Is Finally Streaming on Max
Sep 23, 2024
There’s good news for Scooby-Doo fans looking to relive some nostalgia from the late ’80 and early ’90s. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo is now streaming on Max, and the series turns what you know and love about the franchise on its head. Instead of featuring the Mystery Inc. crew in their adulthood, the show ages everyone down to their childhood. Instead of being a fully grown dog, Scooby-Doo is a puppy in this series, as the name suggests.
The show ran for three seasons and had just 27 episodes total, but it became a cult classic that continued to air on channels such as Cartoon Network throughout the 2000s. Sadly, the show was Don Messick’s last time voicing Scooby before passing away in 1997.
A Pup Named Scooby-Doo is the eighth iteration of the franchise, and all of the familiar characters are here including Fred Jones, Shaggy Rogers, Daphne Blake, and Velma Dinkley. With this being a show set in the characters’ earlier lives, there’s no sign of Scrappy-Doo, Scooby’s younger cousin.
It’s easy to binge through all 27 episodes in a weekend considering the short runtime of about 22 minutes an episode, so there’s no reason Scooby fans shouldn’t give the show a try if they haven’t already.
If you’re still looking for more Scooby-Doo shows after watching this series, you’re in luck. Max added a whole slew of shows to watch, along with some of the fan-favorite movies like Zombie Island and Cyber Chase.
Several Scooby-Doo Shows and Movies Arrived on Max in September
If A Pup Named Scooby-Doo isn’t your cup of tea when it comes to Scooby-Doo shows and movies, there are many more to choose from that were recently added to Max. For movies, you have your pick between Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase, and Aloha! Scooby-Doo. These movies are all standalone from the shows and other movies, so don’t feel like you’re missing any sort of continuity by jumping in and watching them out of order. There’s nothing wrong with viewing the series and movies chronologically, but it’s a big commitment.
As for the shows, there’s a plethora of those available to stream. Aside from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, there’s also The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, The New Scooby-Doo Movies, and The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo. The latter series is the shortest Scooby show so far with just 13 episodes. These arrivals coincide with the currently-running Velma series, a divisive show that offers a new spin on the Mystery Inc. characters, minus Scooby.
Other classic cartoons arrived on September 14 as part of the Max content drop. This includes classic shows like The Tom & Jerry Show, Jonny Quest, and Baby Looney Tunes. That latter series arrived in the early 2000s, but it followed the same trend as A Pup Named Scooby-Doo where it took iconic characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck and aged them down. Baby Looney Tunes took it a step further by making them babies instead of children and aimed the series at a preschool audience, but the idea remained the same.
