‘RoboCop’ TV Series In The Works With James Wan Aboard To Produce

Sep 25, 2024

As a die-hard “Robocop” fan, it’s been tough the past decade or so. The remake just wasn’t great and definitely failed to live up to the original in nearly every way. Then came the reports that Neill Blomkamp was going to make a “RoboCop” film. Sadly, that never came to be. And now, it appears the best we can hope for is a “RoboCop” TV series from Prime Video.

According to Variety, Prime Video is developing a new “RoboCop” TV series. The show will be created and showrun by Peter Ocko, with James Wan aboard as a producer. Here’s the synopsis for the series:
“A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.”
Ocko has been a Hollywood writer for decades, having penned classic shows such as “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose,” “Dead Like Me,” and “Pushing Daisies.” More recently, he was the showrunner on the series “Lodge 49.” Ocko was also showrunner on the series, “Moonhaven.” Trying to figure out his vibe for how he is going to make a “RoboCop” series is difficult based on his filmography. We’ll just have to wait and see.

This is not the first time “RoboCop” has come to TV screens. In the ‘90s, there was a short-lived live-action series that was a spinoff of the film. And let’s not forget the “RoboCop” cartoon that was aimed at children back in an era when Rated R things were turned into kids shows. “Toxic Avenger” and “Rambo” both had animated spinoffs. It was a wild time.
Obviously, this is still very early in the development process of the TV series, but let’s hope it actually happens. Who knows, it might actually be good.
