A Remake of The Classic Sitcom CHEERS is in Development and Will Be Set in The UK — GeekTyrant

One of my favorite all-time sitcoms is Cheers. I love that show and one that I rewatch episodes of often. These characters that filled that series were just so damn lovable. According to Deadline, Big Talk Studios (The Outlaws) revealed that are developing a remake/reimagining of Cheers and the plan is to move the setting to the UK in a pub. It’s explained that Big Talk has “tapped CBS Studios for the rights to remake iconic sitcom Cheers, 30 years after Ted Danson rang the bell for last orders in America.”Simon Nye (Men Behaving Badly, The Durrells) is writing the series and will also act as showrunner if the project gets to actual production. Big Talk boss Kenton Allen said that it is a “huge honor” but also a “huge challenge” to bring Cheers back in a new way. He added that he “might be insane” to take on the project, which isn’t hard to argue. Adapting this classic U.S. comedy for the UK is not going to be an easy task. I mean, it will be interesting to see if the creative team can actually pull this off. They are remaking one of the greatest sitcoms ever made, and I’m not a fan of that, but if they actually manage to develop a fun and entertaining series, good for them.Cheers is set in a cozy Boston bar of the same name. The show revolves around the colorful staff and regular patrons of the bar, led by Sam Malone, a former baseball player turned bartender and owner. As the characters form bonds, friendships, and romances, their personal lives and comedic misadventures are explored, all within the warm, inviting atmosphere of the bar, where “everybody knows your name.”
