Marvel’s Multiverse Returns In December

Nov 11, 2024

If you’ve been following Phases 4 and 5 closely, Marvel Studios is banking on audiences being further enthralled by the multiverse and will be all-in with their animated series “What-If…?,” which takes its name from the string of comic books that saw various heroes, villains, and side characters taking on alternate personas/events thanks to the multiverse and our guide Uatu The Watcher voiced by Jeffrey Wright (“The Batman”). “What-If…?” is now heading into its third season this year and hopefully will try to explore new variants.

The first season of the show that aired on Disney+ seemed to do pretty well with fans and helped telegraph a few elements of Sam Raimi’s “Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness,” such as the return of Hayley Atwell’s brief cameo of Captain Carter. Season 2 followed suit, with new iterations on some of our beloved characters, and even introducing a brand-new Marvel character (not even from the comics), Kahhori.
It’s certainly interesting to see Marvel branching out with animation with other shows like the spinoff “Marvel Zombies,” “Spider-Man: Freshman Year,” and the highly anticipated “Eyes of Wakanda.” However, how many seasons of these shows are going to get made remains to be seen, and if they’ll try to do more origin stuff with animation in the future. Season 3 of “What If…?” debuts on December 22, with a new episode airing daily. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Marvel’s animated series “What If…?” returns in Season 3 for its culminating adventure through the multiverse. Watch as classic characters make unexpected choices that will mutate their worlds into spectacular alternate versions of the MCU. The Watcher (voice of Jeffrey Wright) will guide viewers as the series traverses new genres, bigger spectacles, and incredible new characters. The series features an incredible voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their iconic roles. Season 3 features fan-favorite characters like Captain America/Sam Wilson, The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes, Hulk/Bruce Banner, The Red Guardian, Captain Peggy Carter, Agatha Harkness, Shang-Chi, Storm the Goddess of Thunder, and numerous others.
