Matt Reeves Teases Potential ‘Penguin’ Season 2, As James Gunn Denies A ‘Joker’ Series Is In The Works
Nov 12, 2024
Now that the world has seen “The Penguin” and nearly everyone fell in love with the series, the natural question gets asked—what about Season 2? Well, even though this was thought of as a one-shot story, it appears the folks behind the show are seriously contemplating the idea of returning with another season of the Colin Farrell-starring series.
In a recent interview with THR, Matt Reeves, a producer on “The Penguin” and the filmmaker behind “The Batman,” opened up about the idea of continuing the series into a Season 2. But he wants everyone to know that nothing has been decided yet.

“Everything is on the table,” said Reeves. “But at the end of the day, we feel like there are more stories to tell in this world. So me and Lauren [LeFranc] and [producer Dylan Clark] and Colin are talking and we’re trying to figure out whatever it is, it has to dig into this in a way that feels earned the way this was.”
He continued, “But where it will go, truly, we don’t know yet. I’ve found that when you take on projects, they start to have a life of their own. You discover certain things within them.”
It sure does sound like a Season 2 is coming, huh? That’s not surprising as the fans and critics seemingly loved “The Penguin.” Not just that, the ratings for the show were through the roof, so there’s probably pressure from the studio to keep things going.
But if there isn’t another ‘Penguin’ season, perhaps there are more “The Batman” villains that could be explored on TV? Recently, a new rumor went around that said Reeves was going to explore the world of the Joker on TV with a new series. You may remember that the role of the Joker was played by Barry Keoghan in “The Batman,” but only in a couple of brief scenes. Could a Joker series be in the works? Well, apparently no, according to DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn.

“No, there is absolutely no truth to this,” wrote Gunn on Threads. “A Joker series is not being discussed, nor has even come up at this time. Sorry.”
Well, there goes that idea.
All things considered, there’s no denying “The Penguin” has been a massive hit for HBO and Max, so it would make sense that Matt Reeves and Co. would continue the show in a Season 2 or at least come up with a new villain to showcase. We’ll just have to wait and see.
