‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Gets Excitng Filming Update From James Gunn
Nov 27, 2024
James Gunn’s new vision for the DC Universe (DCU) is nearly here. With Creature Commandos slated for release in a little over a week and the first DCU movie, Superman, wrapping up filming this past summer, everything seems to be going smoothly. Now, we have an update on yet another project from the writer/director, as Peacemaker Season 2 has wrapped filming for two of its principal cast members.
The director took to Instagram to share that John Cena (Christopher Smith/Peacemaker) and Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) have completed filming their scenes for Peacemaker season 2. The director described that “shooting yesterday was one of the most fun days of shooting [he’s] EVER had” on a project while also revealing that there is only one day left of filming on the Max Original series. Production on Peacemaker Season 2 took place in Savannah Georiga, which the Gunn also referred to as a special place to film.
James Gunn’s completion of shooting on Peacemaker Season 2 marks another big milestone for DC Studios, which he and his producing partner Peter Safran co-lead. Evidently, the vision for their first big saga and projects is chugging along well, so far. In addition to the previously mentioned projects, there are also casting announcements and potential filming dates for the next DC original series, Lanterns, and the upcoming Supergirl feature film.
What ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2’s Production Schedule Means for the DCU
With Peacemaker entering the post-production phase along with Gunn’s Superman, the timeline of the DCU that the DC Studios co-chairman shared earlier this month makes much more sense. In response to a fan on Threads, Gunn clarified that the events of the DCU begin with Creature Commandos, which is followed by Superman, and then Peacemaker Season 2. So far, it seems that the DCU projects can be placed chronologically with the time of their production. However, as different creatives helm different stories within the DCU, that could change considerably, especially as Gunn won’t be involved in writing and directing every single film and television show.
Related HBO Confirms Release Dates for The Last of Us and Peacemaker Season 2 Fans can now mark their calendars for two of the most anticipated television shows of 2025.
The plot details for Peacemaker Season 2 are relatively unknown at this point, besides the inclusion of Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., who makes his debut in Creature Commandos this December. There have been set photos that imply changes to the DC canon, which is unsurprising considering that most DCEU films that were released are no longer considered in continuity besides the projects that Gunn wrote and directed himself before becoming Co-Chairman of DC Studios.
Since Gunn and Safran’s appointment as the heads of DC Studios, there have been no significant delays or production issues for the projects under the Gods and Monsters banner first announced in January 2023. So far, it has only been the Amanda Waller television series that shifted its schedule. Regardless of any possible delays or changes to release schedules, the new DC Studios leadership is focused on quality more than anything else. All that remains to be seen is if Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 maintains the quality of Gunn’s previous works and lives up to the intense and careful planning of its writing and production.
