David Harbour Confirms Lewis Pullman’s Bob is Sentry in ‘Thunderbolts*’
Nov 27, 2024
Oh, David Harbour. Never change. The Stranger Things star is set to make his MCU return as Red Guardian in the upcoming Thunderbolts*. The film’s promotion includes several mysteries — most notably, what does the asterisk mean? While Harbour and the cast (which includes Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Lewis Pullman, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus), have maintained that mystery, the actor just let slip the worst kept secret in the MCU.
Sentry is in Thunderbolts*. We already knew it, you already knew it, your mom who asks if Batman is one of those Marvel things knew it. But, Marvel have still tried to keep it a secret. Speaking at D23 Brazil (via ComicBookMovie.com), David Harbour accidentally “revealed,” the true identity of Bob, played by Lewis Pullman, confirming that he will be Sentry. When asked about Bob’s relationship with the rest of the team, Harbour said, “I don’t think he knows what to make of that. I mean, again, we’ll have to see how it unfolds with all of that.”
David Harbour then followed that up with the biggest “spoiler” since Tom Holland accidentally revealed the confidential Avengers: Endgame poster during an Instagram live stream (if you haven’t watched it, you need to go find it).
“I don’t think you guys know much about Bob/Sentry yet, so you’ll have to see what that becomes in this movie. I don’t want to give too much away.”
Every Marvel Fan Knows That Bob Is Sentry
It’s unclear why Marvel Studios think that Bob’s superpowered identity is a secret. The studio have been trying to bring Marvel’s complicated equivalent of Superman to the MCU for years now. The Walking Dead and Beef star, Steven Yeun, was originally cast in the role. But the actor departed from the project dur to scheduling issues caused by last year’s SAG-AFTRA strikes. When Yeun was cast, it had already been confirmed that he would play Sentry.
Now that Lewis Pullman is playing Sentry — sorry, we mean “Bob” — Marvel Studios are playing cover up with his identity. In the first two trailers for the movie, Pullman is only shown in ragged hospital clothes, and referred to as Bob. But, if you look closely, the signs are obvious. In the first trailer, a hand is shown picking up a mysterious gold oval. A closer inspection of the object reveals it to be Sentry’s iconic belt buckle. Both trailers also feature a shot of Bob pulling an angry face with bullet holes in his clothes. Unless he’s some new character with a Wolverine-level healing factor, the scene will likely show off his invulnerability.

Thunderbolts* is currently slated for release on May 2, 2025. The film combines the failed heroes of the MCU’s past into the new titular team. It is suspected that the team’s moniker is only temporary, and, by the end of the film, the group will become the Dark Avengers from the comics.
