While Gladiator 2 has perhaps fallen into the shadow of bigger box office goliaths like Moana 2 and Wicked, the film has still earned a respectable haul, despite its $250 million budget. After a successful Tuesday that saw Gladiator 2 haul in $2.9 million, the legacy sequel has officially crossed the $325 million mark at the global box office. Gladiator 2’s split is heavily skewed towards its international earnings, with $208 million coming from foreign markets and $116 million from domestic earnings. While the film’s total gross is now $75 million over its reported production budget, Gladiator 2 also reportedly featured a marketing budget of around $100 million, meaning the film would need to gross over $400 million to be a profit for Paramount Pictures, tough numbers to reach with such hefty competition.

Gladiator 2 is currently the 17th highest-grossing movie of the year at the domestic box office, recently passing Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Alien: Romulus, while still falling more than $20 million short of Venom: The Last Dance and A Quiet Place: Day One. Gladiator 2 also became the highest-grossing movie of Denzel Washington’s career after its second weekend in theaters, and the film also recently lifted director Ridley Scott past Tim Burton on the list of the highest-grossing directors of all time. Gladiator 2 has its international haul to thank for its most impressive feat, which was recently passing Bad Boys: Ride or Die to become one of the top 15 highest-grossing movies of the year internationally. If it can earn another $18 million in foreign markets, Gladiator 2 will climb past Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

‘Gladiator 2’ Is in Third With No Chance of Climbing Higher

Gladiator 2 finished its second weekend in U.S. theaters in the #3 spot, $50 million behind the second-place competitor in Wicked, which grossed a whopping $81 million during its second weekend in theaters, only a 28% drop from the weekend before. Gladiator 2 also fell more than $100 million short of the top spot, with Moana 2 breaking records in its debut over the Thanksgiving holiday on its way to earning over $139 million during the three-day weekend and more than $220 million over the five-day break.
