Robert De Niro Plays a U.S. President in Netflix’s ‘Zero Day’ Trailer
Dec 24, 2024
Robert De Niro is known as one of the most legendary movie actors to ever grace the big screen, but he continues to make his presence known on television. The Irishman star returns to Netflix next year in a brand-new limited series that will see De Niro portray a former President of the United States amidst a devastating cyberattack that shakes the core of the nation. The upcoming limited series tackles the aftermath of a plausible event in a world that feels strikingly close to ours, with a conspiracy that reshapes the very fabric of national security.
The official trailer for Zero Day positions De Niro as the man in charge of overseeing a widespread, invasive search for the perpetrators of the fictional attack. Thousands of people died as a result of the event, from crashed planes to other technology-based disasters. Meanwhile, the series will cover what discovering the truth in the age of digital misinformation really means, as conspiracy reigns supreme over cold hard facts. The true culprit of “Zero Day” is a central mystery in the Netflix show, and as the streamer teases, De Niro must find out the answer to a central question — “Is the greatest threat a foreign power, or from within?”
In addition to De Niro, Zero Days has a star-studded cast that includes Angela Bassett, who plays the current U.S. president, as well as Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Connie Britton, Joan Allen, Matthew Modine, Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, McKinley Belcher III, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg, and Mark Ivanir. Check out the official synopsis below:
The limited series stars De Niro as respected former President George Mullen, who, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is charged with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyberattack that caused chaos and thousands of fatalities across the country. Disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambitions of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide. Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear.
Netflix’s ‘Zero Day’ is Robert De Niro’s Latest Limited TV Series
He previously starred in the HBO TV movie The Wizard of Lies, and although it was not a show, he was a Primetime Emmy nominee for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. De Niro’s involvement in television is a recent one, which also includes appearing in the Argentine 2023 miniseries Nada available on Hulu. That said, it’s safe to say that Zero Day will be his most prominent television role yet, even for a limited series.
